About Me

Welcome to My Momma Bear Life

My name is Michelle.  I’m a mom, a wife, a nurse, a DIY lover, lover of all things game related, baking, and sewing .

In my posts you can learn about health topics, Do It Yourself projects, recipes, essential oils, and game tips and tricks.

Why Momma Bear?

Ever since I was little I’ve always had the nickname Momma Bear.  It has always been because of my loyalty to my family and my urge to keep them healthy and safe.  This wasn’t always welcomed by my brother when we were younger (can’t imagine why).  This has helped me to find my calling as a mom and RN and my drive to learn more and grow everyday.

A Mom

My favorite profession is being a mom.  I have three amazing sons who encourage and inspire me every day.  They also teach me patience (which is definitely not my strong suite), and that I must individualize my discipline and communication with each of them. They bring me such joy and drive me crazy.  They are each so unique and have taught me so much on how to be a mom, a teacher, and a better (somewhat sane) person.

A Wife

I have been married to my amazing husband for several years and am so very grateful and proud of him.  He is a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern. He works as a Crisis Intervention Counselor and is extremely good at his job.  The demographic he enjoys working with is truly unique (and not one that I would be successful helping or patient enough for), but it makes for great stories.   He is also a wonderful father and a great husband who has been so encouraging with my blogging.

A Nurse

I have had my RN for several years and have my BSN.  I will be returning to school in the beginning of next year for my Masters in Health Education.  I have worked in several different areas including but not limited to Pediatrics, home health, hospice, supervisor positions and am now a GI nurse.  Yes, I said GI (gastroenterology), as a coworker said, “we work with guts to butts”.  I work full-time and enjoy my job, although my commute is for the birds. I live in Southern California and work an hour from my home on a good day, and deal with the lovely Corona Squeeze and the infamous Orange Crush daily.  I love educating and encouraging others.  Please feel free to ask me questions!

Love to Cook and DIY

Our favorite pastime as a family is making food and crafts.  We’ve made everything from soap and shampoo to game organizers and even a snack tray that my husband loves.  With a family of five I cook a lot and know how to shop for the best deals.  With cancer running rampant in my husband’s family, and diabetes, reproductive issues and heart disease running through mine, we have become committed to living cleaner lives and using essential oils whenever possible.  Due to my PCOS we also eat primarily gluten, sugar, and dairy free (I would love to eat one slice of wheat bread).

I’m Organized

Living with two people (my husband and my oldest) with ADHD, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, has made me extremely organized and structured or my house would be full of half-done projects (and my OCD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, would never allow for that).  It has also helped me create effective study systems to help my children with their homework and to focus.

My Faith

I’m a Christian, and try to live everyday remembering that I am a sinner and Jesus died for my sins.  I’m not perfect, nor will I ever be, but I do try to lead by example, teach my children compassion, loving one another, and the power of prayer.  Prayer has helped us through my infertility and PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), my Atrial Septal Defect Repair, and my difficult pregnancies and even more difficult deliveries.

I am who I am

I love life, I love my family and friends, and I love helping others.  I love talking with others and knowing that I can make a difference.  Please feel free to ask questions.  I would love to get to know you.
